- Explore how we can extend existing volunteer opportunities within our services and be open to young people to drive this forward.
- Embed youth social action opportunities within apprenticeships that we may offer.
- Work with voluntary aid societies such as St John Ambulance and the Red Cross to explore how we can engage more young people from their cadet schemes within the Ambulance Service.
- Share best practice for embedding youth social action across the Ambulance Service and with others in the health sector.
- WMAS have created a Cadet Unit, in partnership with Health Futures University Technical College and St. John Ambulance. We have 30 cadets aged between 14-18. The cadets are undertaking an exciting programme which will give them a first aid qualification and a peer education BTEC, enabling them to go into other youth organisations to train them in first aid. Our cadets will also undertake public first aid duty as well adventure camps/days.
- In addition to the Cadet Unit WMAS have also created a Youth Council. The Youth Council will shadow the Foundation Trust Governors and assist the Board of Directors in making strategic decisions. The Council will also form work streams to assist the trust in specific areas/campaigns in order to improve our engagement and communication with young people.
