United Learning

As a national group of some 50 schools, spanning public and private sectors, we will:

  • Identify social action as a group wide pupil experience priority and, through our schools, aim to engage more young people in practical positive change for their communities.
  • Partner with at least three organisations that run high quality social action activities and promote these to our schools.
  • Recruit two social action ambassadors, who will visit at least 10 of our schools to promote the value and benefits of taking part in and leading meaningful change.
  • Include an award for contribution to Youth Social Action in our group award ceremony, the Best in Everyone Awards.
We developed a set of principles which all our schools work towards. As part of this we support our schools to develop character, compassion and service in their pupils. We partner with four organisations that run high quality social action activities and promote these to our schools. They worked with 20 of our schools. We recruited two social action ambassadors, who visited 10 of our schools to promote the value and benefits of taking part in and leading meaningful change. We award a primary and secondary student a Youth Social Action award in both of our group award ceremonies for primary and secondary students.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
"The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK. We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life. Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?"
