Teach First
- Teach First strongly believes that all young people should develop the confidence, skills and resilience to achieve success within and beyond education. We will encourage our teachers and students to get involved with partners working to close the gap in Youth Social Action. For example we will partner with National Citizen Service and set a clear aspiration for our teachers and ambassadors to engage with NCS programmes as part of their leadership development from 2017. This will ensure more young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds benefit from the rich opportunities the programme provides.
In the last year we have worked hard to fulfil our #iwill pledge. In May senior Teach First staff attended a youth social action (YSA) showcasing event at the Bethnal Green Academy. As well as actively contributing to the Step Up To Serve steering group meetings we attended their headteacher conference in June, having nominated our partner schools who are actively embedding YSA to participate.
A YSA workshop and panel discussion, hosted by Step Up To Serve, was an important part of our July Impact Conference, attended by around 4,000 people, including education specialists from across the UK. In August we announced our partnership with National Citizen Service, which will ensure more children from low-income communities have the opportunity to participate in YSA. We have and will continue to work to promote YSA via our internal networks by profiling teachers promoting YSA in schools and signposting YSA organisations and initiatives.
