Spirit of 2012
- Spirit of 2012 pledges to ensure that young voices are woven into the fabric of decision-making through our advisory panel made up of young people from across the UK
- Spirit of 2012 will pledge to invest £8 million over five years to youth empowerment and volunteering
We have invested £6.75 million to date in youth empowerment projects, which incorporate social action through a mixture of sport, arts & culture and volunteering. More information is available on our website.
This investment includes our support for “Emerge”, a project inspired by the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in 2016. Delivered by The Mighty Creatives, Emerge will empower young people as voices for change by providing opportunities for up to 1000 young participants to create, organise and perform in 24 verbal arts festivals over the next three years across 12 Midland locations.
Having designed the grant specification and assessed applications, our Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) made its final Challenge Fund grant awards to Plymouth Music Zone and Verbal Arts Centre in Derry-Londonderry for projects that engage socially isolated young people and connect them with other generations – through music and literature respectively.
We will be recruiting for our second YAP in Autumn 2016, so watch this space!
Quote from Spirit of 2012
“Opportunities for young people to get involved in initiatives that matter to them and their communities are really important; Spirit is committed to enabling young people from all walks of life to contribute and take action for the benefit of others through the projects we support”
