Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- We actively encourage people of all ages to volunteer with us. We currently have over 750 volunteers and around 70% of these are young people, between the ages of 16 and 25 years.
- We promote volunteering for young people not only as an opportunity to support patients from their local community, but also to provide personal enrichment and development.
- We recognise the tremendous contributions which our volunteers make and plan to increase our volunteer numbers by at least 500 by February 2016. We also plan to increase the range of volunteer opportunities available
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust pledges to work with our partners to strive to provide the best quality volunteering opportunities in a hospital and community environment for our young volunteers.
We will continue to recruit young people from across Sheffield and the surrounding areas, aiming at areas of disadvantage to ensure that all young people can access the opportunities on offer.
We will continue to support our volunteers throughout their role with us, engage with them to allow their input into the development of the roles and to provide references to help them with their future employment or studies.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
"The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK. We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life. Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?"
