Saffron Housing Trust
- We pledge to build on the success of our Digital Buddies project and create more opportunities for young people, aged 10-20, to volunteer and help older people living in our sheltered schemes and general needs properties to become more digitally active.
- Currently, we run a successful Digital Buddies group at one of our 13 sheltered schemes in South Norfolk. The group meets fortnightly for 2 hours and has enabled 18 young people to participate in youth social action.
- Young people are recruited and trained to support older people on a one to one basis to develop digital skills such as:
- Understanding how to use IT equipment like laptops, desktop computers, tablets and smart phones
- Creating an email account
- Shopping online
- Joining Facebook
- Watching catch up TV
- The project also provides regular opportunities for young and older people to socialise together and develop positive relationships, which has helped to reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation.
- The project is delivered in partnership with MTM Youth Services with support from South Norfolk Council.
We’ve just pledged to the #iwill campaign in June 2017 – watch this space for updates on our progress.

“I’ve loved working with the young people, everyone has been very useful and kind! Young people don’t usually mix with our age range so it’s great as it’s a two way thing and they can learn from us too!”
