NHS England

  • Support youth social action. Everyday young people contribute fantastic ideas and actions to improve health care services for themselves and for others, making a huge difference.
  • Do more to hear the voices of young people.  We have established and will continue to work closely with the NHS England Youth Forum, enabling a diverse range of young people from across the country to get involved in our work, and hold us to account on our services for children and young people. We are supporting regional youth voice activities and will continue to promote our NHS Digital Badges and develop People Bank, which will link young people to opportunities.
  • Enable more quality and inclusive volunteering opportunities for young people in health and care. We are supporting health organisations to develop activities, facilitating the sharing of good practice, and working in partnership to explore innovative ways to engage young people who may face health, social or economic inequalities. We recognise volunteering can contribute to reducing these inequalities.
  • Establishing the NHS Youth Forum and actively working with a group of young people from across the country and from a diverse range of backgrounds – many have young carer responsibilities, have been ‘looked after’, may have experienced challenges in mental health or have physical disabilities.
  • Providing grants to develop regional youth voice.
  • Launching NHS Digital Badges and delivering training to a range of health organisations on these.
  • Getting ‘People Bank’ approved – and it is now being developed.
  • We have run 2 highly successful Takeover Day events.
  • Starting the new Active Communities Programme. A key priority for this is to increase opportunities for youth volunteering in health and care and widen inclusion.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?”
