National Citizen Service (NCS)
- NCS will celebrate the contribution of one million graduates of National Citizen Service by 2020.
By the end of 2016 300,000 young people will have taken part in NCS, making it the fastest growing youth programme in 100 years. Our latest independent evaluation reveals that NCS programmes have a positive impact on participants’ knowledge and understanding of community involvement and their perceived ability to make a difference. In 2016 alone, over 92,000 16 and 17 year olds took part in the programme, completing over 2.75 million hours of social action across the country. Crucially, the NCS programme is only the beginning of the NCS journey; NCS equips young people with the tools and opportunities so they can continue to engage in their communities. Our first longitudinal study, published in December 2015, reported that NCS graduates spent an additional 6.9 hours each month volunteering than those who had not taken part.
Quote from Michael Lynas, Chief Executive, NCS Trust
“At NCS we were a founding supporter of the #iwill campaign because we want every young person in the country to take part in social action as part of growing up. This is our mission at NCS: giving young people from all backgrounds the right tools, opportunities and respect to change the world around them “
