Heathrow

We believe passionately in the power of youth social action to help young people develop the skills and qualities to reach their full potential and make a significant contribution to their communities. As the pioneer businesses supporting the Campaign, We Will step up to serve and help all young people to have every opportunity to serve other. Together, We Will achieve this by:

  • Together, Heathrow and Heathrow Community Fund will engage 3000 local young people in youth social action.
  • Heathrow Community Fund will pledge at least £250K for The Inspiring Youth Programme, an initiative which supports its partner organisations – The Challenge and Mosaic, as well as V and FIXERS, all of which support youth social action,
  • Heathrow and Heathrow Community Fund will continue to develop partnerships with other youth organisations such as the Scouts, Green Corridor and Girl Guiding.
  • Heathrow will be embedding youth social action in our graduate trainee and employee development programmes through the Duke of Edinburgh awards.
  • Heathrow’s annual Jobs & Careers Fair, with 6000 visitors will exhibit community organisations to encourage visitors to volunteer

Heathrow is proud to be a part of Step up to Serve’s #iWill campaign and the crucial work that it achieves.  As a Pioneer Business, we will continue to invest in programmes through our Community Fund to encourage local youth  to become better citizens, and active contributors to the well-being of our communities.

In 2015, Heathrow and the Heathrow Community Fund have worked to embed youth social action across the business as well as in the local community. This year, Heathrow has engaged 27 colleagues in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, and our partnership with DofE will continue next year. Heathrow also partners with the Scouts Association to sponsor Aviation Skills Badges, and 731 young Scouts and Explorers have achieved this badge using Heathrow resources from January to September. This partnership will also continue next year. At the 2015 Heathrow Jobs and Careers Fair, we invited community organisations Green Corridor and The Challenge to exhibit and engage with the 5,000 young visitors. Finally the Heathrow Community Fund granted £353,864 to Mosaic and the Challenge to increase youth social action locally and encourage businesses to collaborate with young people.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?”
