To achieve progress on our #iwill pledge in 2015 we:
• Increased awareness of social action through writing a new definition in partnership with our volunteers – to support our members to understand social action and be inspired to take up more social action opportunities.
• Ran a girl-led campaign, Girls Matter, calling for concrete changes to improve girls and young women’s lives with thousands of supporters taking actions in support.
• Opened new groups in areas where Girlguiding has been underrepresented with 90% of girls joining taking social action.
• Trained over 100 more peer educators to join our UK wide network.
• Launched a Social Action Innovation Lab to connect staff teams to deliver ambitious social action initiatives.
• Promoted our young members’ social action across the media, nationally and locally.
• Developed plans to establish ‘action for change’ networks for our young members – which we will start to pilot in 2016.
Quote from Julie Bentley, Girlguiding Chief Executive
“Girlguiding passionately believes that girls’ voices and actions can transform the world around them for the better. We’ve been so proud of the thousands of girls and volunteers in guiding who’ve taken action to help other people this year – from breaking world records as social-action-superheroes with Blue Peter, to participating in our Free Being Me body confidence peer education programme. The #iwill anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to come together with other inspiring organisations to celebrate the positive difference young people are making in their communities.”
