  • Campaign to ensure that young people are recognised for their commitment to high quality youth social action through the UCAS application process
  • Create guidance for charities to highlight the value young trustees can bring and promote the role to young people as a valuable way to develop key skills, whilst transforming their communities
  • Encourage business leaders to promote and measure adult volunteering to support youth social action and use their resources and investment to open up more social action opportunities for young people
  • Encourage participation in social action through leading the international day of giving #GivingTuesday in the UK
  • Encourage further intergenerational learning around charitable giving to ensure that values are passed down through the generations
  • Ahead of the 2015 General Election, we will call for parties to commit to introducing the recommendations provided in the ‘Creating an Age of Giving’ report which highlight the important role youth social action has in society

In partnership with over 20 education and youth organisations we worked with UCAS to publish guidance for young people applying to higher education about getting involved in social action. In partnership with young trustee Leon Ward, we conducted research, the ‘Young Trustees Survey’, looking at young people’s experiences of being a trustee and the experiences that charity trustee boards had with a young person on the board.

We used the results of that research and consulted with charity governance experts to create the Young Trustees Guide. The guide is a practical tool to help young people and charities get more young people involved in trusteeship. Our #GivingTuesday campaign was a great success in 2014 and in the run up to the second year we have more young people involved leading campaigns for December 1st.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?”
