Rania was seconded from Teach First in January 2013 to support the development and launch of the #iwill campaign and was appointed Deputy Chief Executive of Step Up To Serve in March 2014. She will continue to focus on Education and Data & Quality Assurance and will also be working with Charlotte and partners on overall strategy development towards the collective 2020 vision.

Rania began her social action journey at an early age, supported by Girlguiding and later the International Baccalaureate, and continued to be an active volunteer through university working mainly in schools, the criminal justice system and mental health settings. She pursued her interest in criminal justice through her PhD research with the London Probation Service.

Following her studies, Rania joined McKinsey & Company focusing on large-scale transformation and capability building programmes across a range of industries. Rania then spent four years at Teach First as Head of Strategy during which time she led on the development of the charity’s next ten-year strategy with multi-stakeholder involvement. Rania has a BSc and PhD in Psychology from the University of York. She enjoys walking at a pace across London and spending time at sea.

“My social action journey as a young person offered me extraordinary experiences and opportunities I would never have imagined possible. It has been an honour to be involved in the campaign from the early stages and see it take shape over the last year thanks to the leadership of so many incredible partners. Young people across the country are already making a difference in their communities and beyond. It is important we recognize this across society and find ways to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to take an active part.”
