Another great sweet from shores afar, this time it’s a West Indian lime. A hard boiled pale green sweet that was originally made from the beautiful exotic lime fruits that were discovered by sailors who adventured to the West Indies years ago. Originally used to keep scurvy at bay the limes were difficult to keep fresh on long sea journeys, so they were cooked up into hard boiled sweets using sugar also found in the warm tropical climates of the Caribbean. This way the sailors were able to get their limes and could keep the dreaded scurvy at bay.
Now these sweets are simply enjoyed as the the delicious gently tart flavoured sweets they are.
